Armored

Armored by Mark Greaney

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this book! It was exceptional. I get worried that when an author starts a new character that it will feel like a copy of an older, more established character (Gray Man). This was a pleasant surprise. The main guy, Duff, is a good change of pace and I am sure that there will be more adventures in his future! Well done, Mr. Greaney!

A Sh*tload of Crazy Powers

A Sh*tload of Crazy Powers by Jackson Ford

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another fantastic read by Jackson Ford. I stumbled upon the Teagan Frost series a couple of summers ago, finding the cover and title interesting on the shelf of my beloved local library. I loved it and finished it in just a day or two. Now, I eagerly await each new installment in the series.

This did not disappoint. It picked up right where book three ended and kept the roller coaster ride of the China Shop moving along its course.

Critical Point

Critical Point by S.L. Huang

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not my favorite of the three Cas Russel books. I loved the first one – Zero Sum, I thought it was original and I enjoyed the character very much. The second in the series, Null Set, was my least favorite and I struggled to finish the book. I had high hopes for the third in the series, and while it was better than Null Set, it still was a bit of a struggle to finish. Too much depended on remembering everything that had happened in the first two books. Not enough refresher for the reader.

I didn’t really get the motivation of the antagonist and how it related to the main characters. They seemed to be two different issues, and the tie together was sort of weakly explained.

Gwendy’s Final Task

Gwendy's Final Task (The Button Box, #3)Gwendy’s Final Task by Stephen King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I saw this book on the shelf at my local library, and was curious as I had not heard of that title before. I went back and read the first two books in the series, Gwendy’s Button Box, and Gwendy’s Magic Feather. Both were excellent, the first reading like a novella, but introducing the character, Gwendy, and giving all the back-story detail that would be important in books two and three.

This series did not disappoint, classic Stephen King with Richard Chizmar thrown in to spice it up. I read Chizmar’s book last summer, Chasing the Boogeyman, which takes place not far from where I grew up and currently live. I devoured that book in days.

This one was no different. An excellent story, just the right amount of thrills and chills. I highly recommend it to any Stephen King or Richard Chizmar fan.

Fuzz by Mary Roach

Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have read most of Mary Roach’s books, but this was by far my favorite. I thought that it was well written, and an enjoyable read. The chapters followed one another perfectly, including elephants, leopards, sea gulls, and rats. It did not disappoint with plants either!

There was a great connection to climate change, the economics of certain decisions, and the current politics involved in some of those decisions.

I highly recommend this one!

Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air

Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air (The Frost Files #2)Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air by Jackson Ford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found this series by chance at the local library. The premise sounded interesting, a young girl that can move stuff with her mind (very X-men-like). I devoured the first one in a matter of days.

This is the second novel with Teagan Frost as the main character. This series gets better and better. I love the characters, so diverse, and they seem very real. I cannot wait to see that happens in the third book in the series!
